What Is Kratom?

Kratom, botanical name Mitragyna speciosa, is a large tree native to Southeast Asia. It is part of the Rubiaceae family, the same family as the coffee tree.

The leaves of the kratom tree contain many alkoliods and have been used historically by the people of south east Asia for a number of reasons. Both medicinally and recreationally. It is a stimulant in low doses and and a sedative at high doses. Kratom is also used as a pain killer, a medicine for diarrhrea and can also be effective in treating opiate addiction.
